The climate in Greece
Found at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Greece lies on the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. The country has a population of 11 million and has the 11th longest coastline in the world. 80% of Greece consists of mountains, and there are also many islands which make up the country, the largest of which is Crete. Tourists are attracted by the islands, coastline, and the ancient ruins. Greece's climate is mostly Mediterranean characterised by mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. The Pindus Mountains also affect the climate of the country. The mountainous areas in Northwest Greece have an alpine climate with heavy snowfall during the winter months. The inland parts of Northern Greece have a temperate climate with cold, damp winters and hot, dry summers with thunderstorms.
