Toronto commuters had a surprise yesterday evening when an ordinary sunny day ended in flash floods.
The day started out like any other, a typical sunny summer day. But then, the Canadian city was struck with an afternoon rainstorm. Nearly 4 to 5 inches fell across the city, overflowing the Don River and the storm sewers.
Commuters abandoned their cars on the Don Valley Parkway motorway, trapped by floods. About 1,000 passengers on a GO Transit train found themselves in ankle deep water. Parts of the track were completely under water. The stunned commuters had to climb out the windows into rescue boats, a process which took about 7 hours.
