The climate in Carcassonne
Located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France, Carcassonne is a fortified town with a population of 47,634. The town is divided into two parts, the fortified Cité de Carcassonne and the more expansive lower city. The fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular destination for tourists. Attractions include the two outer walls and its towers, the castle and its drawbridge, and the Torture Museum. Other sights are the Pont Vieux, the Cathedral, and the Basilica of St. Nazaire and St. Celse. Carcassonne has a humid subtropical climate characterised by hot summers and mild winters. Humidity varies from about 64% in July to 84% in December. The average high temperature in summer is about 27°C. In winter, the average high is about 9°C with lows near 3°C. The average annual precipitation is 695mm with summer having the driest months.
