The climate in Munich
Located in the state of Bavaria in Germany, the city of Munich is on the River Isar, north of the Bavarian Alps. It is the third largest German city with a population of 1.42 million within the city limits. The earliest mention of Munich dates back to 1158, and it was officially granted city status in 1175. Today, Munich is a centre for finance and publishing. Popular attractions include the town hall and Marienplatz, the Bavarian National Museum, Nymphenburg Palace, and the Englischer Garten. The city has an oceanic humid continental climate with warm to hot summers and cold winters. The Alps also have an influence on the weather. The average high temperature in summer is about 24°C. In winter, the average high is around -2°C with lows near –5°C. The annual precipitation is 967mm, and snow is possible during the winter months.
