The climate in Naples
Situated on the west coast by the Gulf of Naples in Southern Italy, Naples is the capital of Campania and one of the largest metropolises on the Mediterranean Sea with a population between 4.1 and 4.9 million. One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, the city developed around ninth century BC. Today, it has a large urban economy and has the largest historic city centre in Europe. The historic centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Popular destinations in the city are the Piazza del Plebiscito, the National Archaeological Museum, the Museo di Capodimonte, and the Royal Palace. Naples has a Mediterranean climate characterised by mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. The annual daily mean temperature is 16°C. The average high temperature in summer is about 30°C. In winter, the average high temperatures are around 8°C with lows near 4°C. Annual precipitation is about 1,006mm with October through February generally being the wettest months.
