The climate in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary Islands. It is situated off the west coast of Northern Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean, and counts a total of 139,000 inhabitants. Its capital, Arrecife, is the seat of the island government, where 42% of the population live. The natural beauty of Lanzarote makes it an ideal place to spend holidays. Although the island lies at the same latitude as the Sahara Desert, the climate is much more pleasant. Trade winds are present during the hottest time of the year, in the middle of summer, from June to August. Due to its location, the territory offers numerous microclimates. The north of the island is generally cloudier, windier and rainier, which results in a greener appearance whereas the south is characterised by a dry and hot climate. The average high temperature climbs to 29°C in August while night time lows fall to 13°C in February.
