The climate in Murcia
The capital and most populous city of the Region of Murcia, Murcia is located in Southeast Spain on the Segura River and has a population of 690,000. Founded in 825AD, the city is now a centre for services and a university town. Popular attractions for tourists include the Cathedral of Murcia, the Bishop’s Palace, the Glorieta, and the local cuisine. Visitors can also see the famous Holy Week procession works of art by Francisco Salzillo. The climate of Murcia is a hot subtropical semi-arid one featuring mild winters and warm to hot summers. The average high temperatures in summer are around 30 to 33°C, though temperatures reach 40°C at least a few times each year. In winter, the average high temperature is around 16 to 18°C with lows near 4°C. Average precipitation is only around 301mm per year.
