Found at the confluence of the rivers Eden, Caldrew, and Petteril in the county of Cumbria in North West England, Carlisle is the largest town in the county with a population of 71,773. The town began as a Roman settlement, and today is the cultural, commercial, and industrial centre for north Cumbria. The main attractions include the 9th century Carlisle Castle, the Old Town, the Guildhall Museum, and the Citadel. Carlisle enjoys an oceanic climate with warm summers and mild to cool winters.
