Located in the West Midlands in England, Stafford is the county town of Staffordshire with a population of 55,700. The town is famous for The Elizabethan Ancient High House, England’s largest timber-framed house, located in the town centre. Another significant landmark is the Stafford Castle, built by the Normans in 1090. The Stafford Shire Hall, containing the Art Gallery and the town’s library also testifies to the town’s rich history. Shoe making used to be Stafford’s main activity as far back as 1476 but gradually died in the 21st century, the last shoe factory being demolished in 2001. It experiences a maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers with an average high temperature of 21°C in August and 6.5°C in January.
