Description of Inverness
As the capital of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness is situated at the mouth of the River Ness (which flows from nearby Loch Ness) and at the Southwestern extremity of the Moray Firth. To visit, explore, shop, relax or just live in, Inverness is a great city and has it all. In summer it overflows with visitors interested in monster hunting at nearby Loch Ness, but the city has so much more to see and discover than this!

A must see while visiting the city is Inverness Castle, built on the site of an 11th century wooden fortress. It is now used as the Scottish Sheriff’s Court and is opposite Inverness Cathedral. It is a low cliff that overlooks the River Ness and even though you cannot enter, this is a fabulous monument to see. Walk up the road behind the castle and admire the beautiful displays of flowers that lead up to the statue of Flora MacDonald. This area offers great walk paths! Another must see is Inverness Cathedral, also called the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew. Its gothic style with its stained glass masterpieces make it another famous landmark on the Inverness skyline. Tourists are allowed to explore the cathedral and visit the popular tearoom and shop, which provide great bakery, fresh tea, coffee, soups and sandwiches. This is the first new cathedral in Britain to be completed after the Reformation in 1869 and is well worth a visit! One of the top tourist attractions is of course Loch Ness. It is one of a group of interconnected lochs that are found along the Great Glen zone. There have been claims that a monster –Nessie- lives in it and this attracts lots of people. Visit the very interesting Official Loch Ness Exhibition Centre that explains both the history and the legend using entertaining multimedia presentations and exhibits. Why not check out the Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre? This will give you a closer look into the history of Scotland and you will be amazed by the intense reenactment of the bloody battle that happened at the Culloden Battlefield. The new visitor centre is one of the best with interactive displays, a restaurant and a gift shop. Plan at least two hours. This is an absolute must see as you will live a great historical Scottish experience.

The climate for Inverness
Situated at the mouth of the River Ness and at the southwest of the Moray Firth in the Scottish Highlands, Inverness has a population of almost 58,000. It is found near two important battle sites: the 11th century battle of Blàr nam Fèinne and the 18th century Battle of Culloden. Today, Inverness is a fast growing city known for its quality of life. Like much of the British Isles, the climate in Inverness is an oceanic one with cool summers and rainfall year-round. The average high temperature in the summer is around 19°C. In winter, the high temperature is normally around 5°C with lows near -1°C.
