The climate in Sheffield
The city of Sheffield, situated in South Yorkshire, is one of the eight largest regional English cities. It has a population of 551 000 people making it the third largest English district by population. Sheffield became well renowned in the 19th Century because of its steel production. Today Sheffield is home to more than 200 parks, woodlands and gardens. Over half of its surface area is green space and a third of the city belongs to the Peak District National Park. The city even has more trees per person than any other city in Europe. The climate in Sheffield is temperate like much of the UK. Weather can be wet but the Pennines to the west provide shelter from prevailing westerly winds. In summer temperatures reach an average high of 21°C and in winter, the average low is just under 2°C.
