The climate in San Francisco
Located in Northern California on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula in the United States, San Francisco is a leading financial and cultural centre and has a population of 815,400 in the city centre. It is one of the most visited places in the USA thanks to its cool summers, steep rolling hills, mix of architecture, and landmarks. These landmarks include the Golden Gate Bridge, the infamous former prison on Alcatraz Island, and Chinatown. San Francisco has a cool summer Mediterranean climate that is strongly influenced by the cool currents of the Pacific Ocean. With temperatures exceeding 24°C only 28 days a year on average, the normal high temperature in summer is around 20°C. In winter, high temperatures are normally around 14°C with lows near 8°C. The average annual precipitation is around 600mm with most falling between November and March.
